SYNTAINICS MBC won the dress rehearsal for the VIMODROM TOP FOUR at home as they defeated RASTA Vechta 91-83 - including snatching the tiebreaker with a halfcourt buzzer beater. Weißenfels almost gave away a 19-point cushion but snapped a two-game losing skid to improve to 10-10 as it prepares to hosts FC Bayern Munich in the German Cup Semi-Finals. Spencer Reaves poured in a career-high 33 points while Tyren Johnson and Martin Breunig combined for 35 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Vechta were coming off a second shocking win over Bayern this season but could not make it four wins in five games and dropped to 11-8.
Game Summary: The game was back and forth from the start with five lead changes in the first 3 minutes and the hosts led 13-9. Four more lead changes saw Wolves ahead 18-16 and the score was 24-18 after 10 minutes. The cushion extended to 10 points at 28-18 and Vechta could not get any stops and the team from Weißenfels was leading 37-25. Vechta temporarily trimmed the deficit to eight points only to see the hosts pull away again 48-33. And Vechta were trailing 48-36 at halftime.
The hosts kept Vechta at an arm’s length in the third quarter though it was 53-45. Wolves knocked down two three-pointers in a 14-1 run to establish the biggest lead of the game at 67-46. Vechta did score the final five points of the third quarter to trail 67-53. Vechta could not really cut into the deficit early in the final quarter, trailing still 77-58. But the guests were not ready to just hand over the win and reeled off eight straight points to make it 77-69 with 3 minutes to go. Vechta would not let up and trailed just 81-78 inside the final minute. Vechta’s Brandon Randolph had a chance to make it a two point game with 29 seconds remaining but made just one of three free throws and Spencer Reaves iced the game with two free throws. Charles Callison’s three-pointer off the glass from mid-court at the buzzer gave SYNTAINICS MBC the tiebreaker.

Player of the Game: Spencer Reaves was a scoring machine with 33 points - racing past his previous career high of 25 points earlier this season. He also had 1 rebound and 2 assists in the victory.
The Germans: Martin Breunig collected 17 points, 7 rebounds - 6 of them from the offensive glass, and 3 assists for the winners. Vechta's young star center Johann Grünloh scored 11 points with 5 rebounds and Joel Aminu added 8 points and 2 assists.
Weißenfels snatch tiebreaker: Vechta turned a 19-point deficit with 6 minutes left into a 3-point game with 58 seconds to play. Wolves had staved off the comeback but went after the tiebreaker - with the first matchup ending in an 87-79 win for Vechta. Reaves hit a three-pointer with 4.7 seconds left and then Charles Callison drained a three-pointer from the center circle off the backboard to win the point differential. With how close the league is this season, that buzzer-beater might prove crucial when all is said and done.
Also Newsworthy: Brandon Randolph led Vechta with 20 points but he made just 6 of 13 free throws, including 1 of 3 with 29 seconds to play.
What's Up Next: SYNTAINICS MBC will now shift their focus to the VIMODROM TOP FOUR at home on Saturday February 15 with their game against FC Bayern Munich. Vechta head into the FIBA break and will not return to the court until March 1 at home against BG Göttingen..
