NINERS Chemnitz collected their first victory of the season with an impressive second half for a 102-87 home win over Veolia Towers Hamburg. After losing their first game in the easyCredit BBL and their debut in the BKT EuroCup, Chemnitz mounted a 28-7 surge spanning the final two quarters to run away from Hamburg. Yordan Minchev paced six Chemnitz players in double figures with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Zacharie Perrin scored 23 points for Hamburg, who have dropped all four of their games this season - two league games and losses in the German Cup and EuroCup.
Game Summary: Hamburg were the first team to take a bit of a lead at 13-6 thanks to two three-pointers while Chemnitz could not find their target from outside. Hamburg’s 21-year-old French talent Zacharie Perrin was strong inside with 8 points for a 20-13 advantage. Chemnitz fought back and evened the game 22-22 but Hamburg drained two more triples and led 28-22 after 10 minutes. Hamburg started the second quarter with another three-pointer to push the gap to 31-22. Chemnitz finally hit from long range with two triples and pulled within 34-32. The hosts knocked down another three-pointer and grabbed their first lead 39-38, and Chemnitz pulled ahead 42-40. But it was Hamburg who led at the break 44-42.
Chemnitz had the better start to the second half with an 8-2 spurt for a 52-48 advantage. Hamburg managed to tie the game 54-54 but Yordan Minchev followed with the next five points to start a 20-7 surge for a 74-61 lead after three quarters. Chemnitz scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter to extend the cushion to 82-61. Hamburg could not get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Numbers Please: Chemnitz shot 52 percent for the game including 67 percent on two-pointers and out-rebounded Hamburg 47 to 29 including 16 offensive rebounds, which led to an advantage of 19-9 in second chance points.
Player of the Game: Yordan Minchev was clearly the star of the game off the bench for Chemnitz. The power forward made 10 of 13 shots and 3 of 4 free throws for 25 points and also grabbed 13 rebounds - four of them at the offensive end. The Bulgarian also dished out 3 assists for an efficiency of 35.

The Germans: Kevin Yebo scored 12 points to go with 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block in 16 minutes and Kostja Mushidi added 8 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal for the winners. Chemnitz's 18-year-old Christopher Wahren also played the final 66 seconds in his Bundesliga debut. Kenneth Ogbe tallied 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 steals and Benedikt Turudic picked up 2 points and now only needs 19 to reach the 1,000 point mark in his Bundesliga career.
Chemnitz continue domination of Hamburg: Chemnitz have clearly had Hamburg's number. Rodrigo Pastore's team improved to 10-1 all-time against the Towers, whose only victory came on March 24, 2022 with an 89-85 win in Chemnitz.
What's Up Next: Chemnitz will head on the road for their next game on Sunday October 5 at MLP Academics Heidelberg. Hamburg continue heading south and will face off against FC Bayern Munich on Sunday October 5.
