VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier put behind them their nightmare defensive performance from their season opener in shutting down Telekom Baskets Bonn 106-80 in their first game in front of their home fans. Trier conceded 116 points to Basketball Löwen Braunschweig last week but showed a different face against Bonn to improve to 1-1. Jordan Roland led the way with 20 points for the winners and Eli Brooks had 19 points. Bonn fell to 1-1 despite John-Michael Wright scoring 14 points.
Turning Point: Trier went on a 10-2 run midway through the second quarter to open a 12 point lead. Bonn could only get within nine points and the hosts mounted another 10-2 surge to start the third quarter to lead 62-40. Bonn could never make it interesting the rest of the way.
Duel in focus: John-Michael Wright was Bonn's star in the opening round and he had a solid game against Trier with 14 points and 2 rebounds. But he only had 1 assist and 3 turnovers. Eli Brooks at the other end scored 19 points while also contributing 3 rebounds and 7 assists.
Numbers Please: Trier shot 52 percent from the field including 63 percent on two pointers. They also held Bonn to just 44 percent for the game including 32 percent from long range. Bonn also made just 11 of 20 free throws for 55 percent.
Player of the Game: Jordan Roland paced Trier with 20 points while also grabbing 4 rebounds to go with 5 assists and 2 steals.
The Germans: Moritz Krimmer drained 4 three-pointers to tie his career high with 17 points while also picking up 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Marco Hollersbacher added 7 points and 7 rebounds for Trier. Bonn had Joel Aminu score 10 points with 2 assists and 3 steals while Patrick Heckmann chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Bonn can't handle the ball: Bonn shined in their opening win with just 6 turnovers in the whole game - including just 1 in the first 20 minutes. Against Trier, Marko Stankovic's team had 4 turnovers in the first 10 minutes and ended up with 17 miscues.
What's Up Next: Trier will stay at home for their Bundesliga game as they host Science City Jena on Sunday September 27. Bonn meanwhile have a home game for Round 3 as they welcome SYNTAINICS MBC on Sunday September 27.
