RASTA Vechta fought off on-going injury concerns to rally from 14 points down and beat ratiopharm ulm 97-92 in an overtime thriller at home to finally collect their first Bundesliga win of the season. Matt Lewis scored 26 points while Justin Edler-Davis had 19 points and teenager Dominik Dolic had the game of his life with 17 points as Vechta improved to 1-5. Michael Rataj poured in 22 points but they were not enough as Ulm dropped their third straight game for a 2-3 record.
Turning Point: Ulm led by 14 points at halftime before Vechta used a 14-3 run to make it 61-59 after three quarters. The hosts ended up taking the lead 79-78 with 90 seconds left on a long Matt Lewis three-pointer. Another Lewis triple made it 84-83 with 9.7 seconds to go but Jaylen Sims split two free throws with 2.1 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
Vechta built a seven-point lead with 78 seconds to go before two Ulm triples trimmed the deficit to one point. But 19-year-old Dominik Dolic had ice in his veins in making both free throws with 10 seconds left for the win.
Duel in focus: The anticipated German showdown at power forward between Michael Rataj and Philipp Herkenhoff did not happen as the latter missed the game injured. Rataj certainly lived up to his end of the bargain with 22 points.
Numbers Please: Ulm could not take advantage of a 22-9 difference in points off turnovers as they also made just 47 percent from the free throw line. Vechta hit 71 percent of their foul shots and also won the rebound battle 46-33 including 14 offensive rebounds.
Player of the Game: Matt Lewis led Vechta in scoring but it was Justin Edler-Davis who was the key to the win. The forward scored 19 points while also grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 2 assists.
The Germans: Dominik Dolic had 17 points (more below), Nelson Weidemann added 8 points (also more below) and Tibor Pleiß collected 7 points and 14 rebounds for Vechta. Michael Rataj paced Ulm with 22 points and 5 rebounds while Marvin Heckel and Lenny Liedtke both scored 5 points in the loss.

Career night for 19-year-old Dolic: With Vechta having so many injury concerns at guard, they ended up getting an unlikely career night from 19-year-old Dominik Dolic - playing in his sixth Bundesliga game. The German-Croatian blew away his career high of 4 points as he poured in 17 points while hitting 5 of 9 shots including 2 of 5 triples and 5 of 5 free throws - among them the game deciding pair with 10 seconds left. He also had 1 rebound and a career best 5 assists in a career high 20:42 minutes - more than his combined 16:05 minutes coming into the game.
Goodbye for Weidemann: This was the last game with Vechta for German international guard Nelson Weidemann, who will be heading to Oceania to play for New Zealand Breakers. He bid farewell with 8 points, 1 rebound and 3 assists.
In street clothes: Vechta were missing Tommy Kuhse, Philipp Herkenhoff, Kihei Clark and Lamin Sabally. The hosts had another injury concern in the game as starting guard Lloyd Pandi played only 3:29 minutes.
