EWE Baskets Oldenburg kept alive their chances of reaching the post-season by defeating VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier 98-95 on the road despite wasting a 17-point lead. Brian Fobbs scored 21 points and Nicholas Tischler had a career high 21 points among six Oldenburg players in double figures in a thrilling game in Trier. Oldenburg improved to 15-17 with their fourth win in the last five games as the Play-Ins are still there for the taking. Trier picked the worst time for a four-game losing streak in falling to 16-16 despite Behnam Yakhchaldi Dehkordi's 20 points and 19 each from Clay Guillozet and Marten Linßen.

Game Summary: Oldenburg raced away from Trier in the first quarter with an 18-0 run in 4 minutes as Brian Fobbs buried 3 three-pointers for 11 points and Nicholas Tischler scored the other seven points for a 23-6 lead. The guests led 25-13 after 10 minutes. Another Fobbs three-pointer had Oldenburg ahead 30-16 early in the second period. Trier put together a strong 15-2 run over 3 minutes to close within 32-31. Fobbs hit from long range to stop the run and Chris Clemons finally scored his first points with 2:23 minutes left in the first half for a 40-34 cushion. But Clay Guillozet hit from deep to put Trier ahead 43-42 and the game was tied 43-43 at halftime.
The third quarter was close throughout with 14 lead changes and 6 ties while Dakarai Tucker connected on 4 three-pointers in a span of 3:30 minutes for Oldenburg, who trailed 70-67 after 30 minutes. Neither team could really pull away in the final frame with Tischler’s triple making it 81-75 with 5 minutes to play, and the cushion grew to 85-77. After Behnam Yakhchali Dehkordi hit two triples to tie the game 87-87, Michale Kyser converted twice after offensive rebounds and Clemons iced the game with two free throws with 5.3 seconds to play.

Numbers Please: Oldenburg lost the rebound battle 35-33 including 14 offensive rebounds to 13 but the visitors collected 22 second chance points compared to 13 for Trier. Oldenburg also shot 42 percent from long range while Trier hit 37 percent from the outside.

Player of the Game: With Chris Clemons starting the game slow, Brian Fobbs was there throughout for Oldenburg with 21 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Germans: Nicholas Tischler tied his career high with 21 points to go with 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. At the other end, Marten Linßen collected 19 points and 6 rebounds for Trier while Nolan Adekunkle chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds and Marco Hollersbacher tallied 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal.

Clemons still reaches 18 points: Chris Clemons poured in 52 points in the first matchup of these teams in a game for the ages. Oldenburg's star did not score until 2:23 minutes left in the first half. Still, the guard finished with 18 points - on 6 of 17 shots and 4 of 5 free throws, 4 rebound and 3 assists.

Fight for the playoffs / battle against relegation: Trier must wait to secure a spot in the Play-Ins while Oldenburg are still in the race for the post-season.

What's Up Next: Trier's final two games of the regular season will be at Telekom Baskets Bonn on Friday May 8 and then at home on Sunday May 10 against SYNTAINICS MBC. Oldenburg will finish their season next week with a home game against Basketball Löwen Braunschweig on Friday May 8 and then travel to FC Bayern Basketball on Sunday May 10.
