Game Summary: Ludwigsburg managed only one basket in the first 3 minutes and Braunschweig were ahead 6-2 and led 11-6. The guests drained two three-pointers in taking their first lead 14-11 but it was Braunschweig leading 19-18 after 10 minutes. Braunschweig had the better start to the second stanza with two three-pointers and a 9-0 surge to lead 31-22. Ludwigsburg punched back and evened the game 33-33. The hosts led temporarily by four points but the game was tied 42-42 at intermission.
Elijah Hughes knocked down two three-pointers in a 10-0 start by Ludwigsburg into the second half for a 52-42 advantage. The cushion swelled to 11 points at 54-43 before Braunschweig pulled within 54-52. Ludwigsburg withstood the challenge and led by as many as nine points and were up 67-62 after 30 minutes. Ludwigsburg were still leading 78-73 halfway through the fourth quarter when they went cold offensively. At the other end, Joshua Obiesie picked up seven points including a three-pointer for an 82-78 lead. Ludwigsburg punched back with a 10-1 surge with Terrell Harris’ triple making it 88-83 with 47 seconds to play. Bryant Crawford hit the next five points to tie the game with 12 seconds left to send it to overtime. In the extra session, Braunschweig scored the first seven points to go up 95-88. Ludwigsburg fought back to make it 95-94 only to see David N'Guessan made two free throws with 9.5 seconds remaining for a four-point lead.

Numbers Please: Braunschweig shot 58 percent on two-pointers (21 of 36 shots) compared to 45 percent for Ludwigsburg while also converting 38 of 53 (!) free throws as Ludwigsburg made 17 of 24 foul shots. Braunschweig also turned 20 offensive rebounds into a 31-10 advantage in second chance points.

Player of the Game: David N'Guessan came up big all game with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocks. The big man's production was all the more needed because Braunschweig's other starting big man Simi Shittu fouled out with 7 minutes left in the third quarter.

The Germans: Joshua Obiesie poured in 16 points with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal while Benjamin Schröder collected 11 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal and Philipp Hartwich chipped in 4 points, 1 rebound and 3 blocks. Ludwigsburg had fromer Braunschweig forward Brandon Tischler tally 7 points and 8 rebounds and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann contribute 7 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block.

Fight for the playoffs / battle against relegation: Braunschweig's motto for the game could have been "Die Another Day" - the name of the James Bond thriller from 2002 - and Dennis Schröder's team still needs a lot of help. In addition to winning their final two games, Braunschweig needs Science City Jena to lose their final two games and MLP Academics Heidelberg have to drop at least one of their last two contests. Ludwigsburg meanwhile still have excellent chances of reaching the Play-Ins but a victory would have kept alive their chances for an automatic Playoffs spot.

What's Up Next: Braunschweig will finish off their season next week with a game at EWE Baskets Oldenburg on Friday May 8 before bidding farewell to the easyCredit BBL for at least next season with their home fans on Sunday May 10 against NINERS Chemnitz. Ludwigsburg meanwhile host FC Bayern Basketball on Thursday May 7 before the final game of the regular season at Fitness First Würzburg Baskets on Sunday May 10.
