ALBA BERLIN showed their class coming out of the national team break by spoiling the debut of MLP Academics Heidelberg’s new head coach Carlo Finetti with an 87-54 road victory. Berlin bounced back from losing in the BMW TOP FOUR Final to take control of the game with a 14-0 run in the second quarter and pushed the gap to 21 points early in the second half to cruise to the win. Berlin improved to 16-6 thanks to Moses Wood hitting 6 three-pointers for 25 points. Heidelberg start the final stretch of the relegation fight with a tough loss to fall to 5-17. Ryan Mikesell had 10 points in the loss.
Game Summary: Heidelberg led early on 4-2 but watched Berlin mount a 13-2 run to go ahead 15-6 thanks to two triples. Both teams struggled to score and the visitors were leading 18-12 after 10 minutes. Heidelberg started the second quarter with the first 5 points to pull within one point 18-17. The hosts would even the game 26-26 but Berlin kept Heidelberg scoreless for more than 3 minutes for 14 straight points to surge ahead 40-26. And the cushion was 43-28 at the intermission.
Moses Wood hit two triples early in the third quarter as the lead extended to 51-30 and Berlin did not allow Heidelberg to get anything going offensively. Wood finished off the third period with two more three-pointers and led 68-39. Heidelberg could not get closer the rest of the way.
Numbers Please: Berlin held Heidelberg to just 32.8 percent shooting for the game - including 24.0 percent from long range - and forced 22 turnovers. Berlin hit 50.8 percent from the field.

Player of the Game: Moses Wood was outstanding all game - draining 6 of 8 three-pointers for 25 points. Both 6 threes and 25 points were new career highs for the Berlin forward. Wood added 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block.
The Germans: Sam Griesel scored 13 points to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal for Berlin while Jack Kayil collected 8 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal, Jonas Mattisseck scored 8 points and Malte Delow contributed 4 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. At the other end, Mateo Seric picked up 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals in the loss.

Not the start Heidelberg were hoping for: Heidelberg came into the game with a good amount of time to work with new head coach Carlo Finetti, the former assistant who moved into the main spot after the firing of Danny Jansson. But a blowout loss at home was not what the team was hoping for coming out of the national team break as the team hopes to fend off relegation.
What's Up Next: Heidelberg’s next game will be on Monday March 9 at VET-CONCEPT Gladiators Trier. Berlin return to the court at home on Sunday March 8 against Fitness First Würzburg Baskets.
