EWE Baskets Oldenburg used a big start to the second half to fight off SYNTAINICS MBC for a 91-84 home victory to extend their winning streak to five games while the guests have now lost five consecutive games. Oldenburg scored the first 12 points of the third quarter to break the game open and held off a comeback attempt to improve to 6-9 including 3-5 at home - in front of a sell-out crowd for the 53rd game in a row. Nicholas Tischler scored 19 points and Chris Clemons added 18 points in the win. Weißenfels have dropped to 7-8 despite Spencer Reaves scoring 27 points.
Game Summary: Oldenburg used a mini 7-0 run to lead 7-3 early. Spencer Reaves knocked down two three-pointers at the other as the Wolves remained close the rest of the first quarter, which ended with Oldenburg up 23-18. Marcus Foster poured in seven points but Oldenburg still led by six points 34-28 and extended the gap to double digits at 45-34. Reaves buried two nore triples and Weißenfels were down 47-41 at halftime.
Nicholas Tischler opened the second half with two three-pointers as Oldenburg had a 12-0 run for a 59-41 lead. Wolves needed more than 4 minutes to finally score and could not get defensive stops with Oldenburg extending the margin to 19 points at 67-48. And the hosts were up 71-58 after 30 minutes. Tischler scored twice in helping make it 77-62 with under 8 minutes to play. Wolves reeled off the next 10 points to get within 5 points but Chris Clemons came up with a number of big plays and Michale Kyser tipped in a Clemons miss with 22 seconds to seal the deal 87-82.
Numbers Please: Oldenburg shot 56 percent for the game while outrebounding the guests 36-25 for a 12-4 advantage in second chance points. Wolves also converted just 12 of 21 free throws for 57 percent.

Player of the Game: Nicholas Tischler continued his superb run of play with 19 points on 7 of 11 shots and 3 of 4 free throws to go with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Tischler was just one point short of his career high and has averaged 17.8 points in the last five games.
The Germans: Besides Tischler, Colin Schroeder started for Oldenburg and the 19-year-old set career highs with 12:44 minutes, 4 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist. Akeem Vargas picked up 10 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist at the other end.
More Spasic magic for Oldenburg: Don't look now but Oldenburg have won five straight games and all of them have come with new head coach Lazar Spasic. The 33-year-old Serbian served as assistant coach under Predrag Krunic, who was fired on December 7. Oldenburg lost their first game with Spasic in the main seat against FC Bayern Basketball but now have captured five wins in a row.
Milestones: Akeem Vargas' 10 points allowed him to join the 1,500-point club in his Bundesliga career.
