ALBA BERLIN had the perfect start out of the FIBA national team break with a thrilling 89-83 win over SKYLINERS at home for their 10th straight victory. Playing at the Max-Schmeling-Halle, Berlin wasted a 17-point first quarter lead and there were 12 lead changes in the game. Teenager Jack Kayil decided the game with five straight points inside the final 88 seconds to give Berlin a 6-2 record including five wins in a row in the league. Kayil finished with a career-high 21 points off the bench. Frankfurt suffered their first road loss of the season and had their three-game winning streak snapped for a 5-4 mark. Isaiah Swope scored 18 points in the loss.

Game Summary: Berlin started the game on fire from long range with four three-pointers in building an 18-2 advantage. Frankfurt managed four straight points but the hosts increase the lead to 17 points at 23-6 and it was 23-8 after 10 minutes. Frankfurt worked their way back into the game with two triples to pull within 28-20. Berlin were able to get the lead to 11 points but the guests did not allow a basket in more than 4 minutes and cut the deficit to 41-39. And the score was 43-39 for Berlin at the break.
The Frankfurt momentum continued after halftime with Nahiem Alleyne draining two three-pointers and the guests led 52-51. The drama picked up with eight more lead changes and four ties over the final 6 minutes of the third quarter, which ended with the teams deadlocked 66-66. The back and forth continued early in the final frame with three more lead changes as Sam Griesel’s triple made it 73-71. Berlin were up 82-77 before Alleyne tallied five straight points to even it 82-82 with 107 seconds to go. Jack Kayil stepped up with a jumper and three-pointer over Till Pape to make it 87-82 with 51 seconds remaining. And Frankfurt went cold from the field in the final minute.

Numbers Please: Berlin put together a superb offensive performance as they shot 57 percent for the game including a blistering 70 percent from long range. The hosts also did a good job getting easy points with 18 fast break points compared to 8 for Frankfurt.

Player of the Game: The 19-year-old Jack Kayil was the hero for Berlin as he set a career high with 21 points including 4 three-pointers. His previous best was 16 points. He also picked up 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal.

The Germans: Besides Kayil, Malte Delow collected 12 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, Jonas Mattisseck had 8 points and 2 rebounds and Norris Agbakoko chipped in 6 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block. For Frankfurt, Till Pape scored 14 points with 6 rebounds and Jacob Knauf added 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Kayil, Hundt make up for Hermannsson absence: Berlin have to be happy they played as well as they did given their leading point guard Martin Hermannsson was out following an injury from the FIBA national team break. Bennet Hundt started as playmaker and contributed 5 points, 3 assists and 1 steal in 16 minutes while Kayil shined in his best performance as a professional.

What's Up Next: Berlin will next take the court on Tuesday December 9 in the Basketball Champions League where they play at French club Elan Chalon. Berlin will return to the Bundesliga on Sunday December 14 at Veolia Towers Hamburg. Frankfurt for their part will remain on the road for their next game as they play at Telekom Baskets Bonn on Wednesday December 10 with another game in the league on Sunday December 14 at home against Science City Jena.
