MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg barely survived a major misstep in their fight for the playins as they struggled to defeat already-relegated BG Göttingen 79-74 on the road. Ludwigsburg never were able to put away the hosts and improved to 13-14 after having lost five of the last six games. Joel Scott led five Ludwigsburg players in double figures with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Göttingen fought throughout but could not snap their losing streak, which extended to 19 games for a 1-26 record despite 23 points from Kostja Mushidi.
Game Summary: The guests started the game in fine fashion with a 13-3 run to lead 13-5. Göttingen struggled to deal with Ludwigsburg’s number one defense in the league and trailed 20-7. Göttingen trimmed the gap to 22-16 after 10 minutes. It was an 11-0 surge to pull within 22-20 early in the second quarter. Ludwigsburg picked it up again offensively and pushed the advantage to 35-25. Jimmy Boeheim would not let Ludwigsburg pull away with three scores to make it 37-36. And Göttingen went into the break even at 41-41.
A Kostja Mushidi three-pointer pushed the relegated side ahead 44-41 to start the second half. The game remained hard-fought and tight with three points being the biggest lead for either team. And the score was 55-54 for Ludwigsburg after 30 minutes. The opening minutes of the fourth quarter went back and forth with Mushidi and Joel Scott each scoring three times for their teams. There were seven lead changes in the first four minutes and the hosts were up 66-64. Göttingen went scoreless for nearly 4 minutes and Ludwigsburg went up 71-66. The hosts punched back with the next six points to lead 72-71. The last point was a Mushidi free throw, but he was forced to the bench with a bloody arm and his replacement Tra Holder missed the second free throw, leading to a layup by Justin Simon. Deion Hammond later could not handle a Mushidi pass and Simon grabbed the steal and layup to make it 76-72. And Scott put back an offensive rebound with 1.4 seconds left to ice the game.
Numbers Please: Ludwigsburg grabbed 20 offensive rebounds which led to 14 more field goal attempts, but they couldn't really use that advantage, shooting just 40 percent for the game and 17.4 percent (4 of 23) from long range as well as a nightmare 15 of 32 from the foul line for 47 percent. But Ludwigsburg committed only 9 turnovers and held Göttingen to just 38 percent shooting.

Player of the Game: Joel Scott scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds - 7 of them from the offensive glass including the game-decider - while also picking up 1 assist and 2 steals.
The Germans: Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann set season highs with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with 2 blocks and 18-year-old Julis Baumer scored a career high 6 points to go with 2 rebounds in a career high 23 minutes before fouling out. Kostja Mushidi poured in 23 points with 3 three-pointers along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists for Göttingen while Mathis Mönninghoff added 5 points and 2 assists and Janis Jünemann chipped in 4 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
Triple double-double - near triple-double: Ludwigsburg missing so many shots allowed for three of their players to record double-doubles. In addition to Joel Scott's 21 points and 12 rebounds, Justin Simon tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds and Jonas Wohlfarth-Bottermann added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Simon for his part was actually flirting with a triple-double as he added 7 assists in the victory.

400th game ... two more years with Göttingen for Mönninghoff: There was a ceremony before the game as Mathis Mönninghoff received a Göttingen jersey with the number 400 on it - representing the veteran's 400th game in the easyCredit BBL, 271 of them for Göttingen. The club used the ceremony to announce to the crowd that the 33-year-old will stay with the Göttingen for two more years until 2027 despite the relegation to the ProA.
What's Up Next: Göttingen's next chance to end their losing streak will be on Friday April 25 at Bamberg Baskets - the only team the club beat in the league this season. Ludwigsburg meanwhile will be hosting Veolia Towers Hamburg on Saturday April 26.
