Six-time champions Bamberg Baskets booked their ticket to the TOP FOUR of German BBL Cup by beating record winners ALBA BERLIN 80-67 at home for their 15th Semi-Finals. Bamberg took control of the game with a 30-9 run spanning the final two quarters to join SYNTAINICS MBC and SKYLINERS in the final four. Ronaldo Segu paced five Bamberg scorers in double figures with 16 points and Filip Stanic had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Berlin’s nightmare season continued as their streak of 13 straight appearances among the final four teams was snapped. Matt Thomas scored 15 points in the loss.
Game Summary: Berlin led 6-3 after two quick scores from Martin Hermannsson. The guests struggled to get stops, especially against Ibrahim Watson, who scored nine points and Filip Stanic added two baskets in an 18-5 run to lead by double figures 21-11. Matt Thomas stopped the run with a triple and Berlin trailed 21-16 after 10 minutes. KeyShawn Feazell drained two triples to start the second quarter and Bamberg were up 27-18. Berlin twice trimmed the gap to four points before using 9-2 surge to take a 36-35 lead, which was also the score at halftime.
The second half started with three lead changes and Stanic scored four points to try and keep Bamberg ahead but Berlin used another 9-2 spurt to lead 51-46. The hosts responded with a strong 16-2 run with seven points from MaCio Teague and Bamberg led 62-53 after 30 minutes. Thomas started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer but Bamberg continued the momentum from the previous frame with an 11-2 run and built a 15-point cushion and it was 76-60 after a Teague triple with 5 minutes to play. Berlin could not get closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Numbers Please: Bamberg snatched 15 offensive rebounds, which led to 12 more field goal attempts for the hosts and a 14-4 advantage in second chance points. Anton Gavel’s team made 9 three-pointers compared to 5 for Berlin. And Bamberg also took care of the ball better, committing only 9 turnovers.
Player of the Game: Ronaldo Segu had another big cup showing for Bamberg as he collected 16 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 1 steal. Segu, of course, was the hero in Bamberg's 103-100 victory over ratiopharm ulm in the Round of 16, hitting the game-winning triple at the final buzzer.

The Germans: Filip Stanic was outstanding for Bamberg with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Moritz Krimmer chipped in 5 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block. At the other end, Malte Delow had 3 points and 7 rebounds and Jonas Mattisseck tallied 3 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals.
TOP FOUR opponents: Bamberg's opponents for the TOP FOUR will be determined on Monday December 9 after the final Quarter-Finals matchup between FC Bayern Munich and RASTA Vechta. Bamberg have captured the German Cup six times - 1992, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2017 and 2019.
What's Up Next: Bamberg return to the floor in the European North Basketball League at Legia Warsaw on Wednesday December 11. Bamberg then host Telekom Baskets Bonn on Saturday December 14. Berlin's next game is Thursday December 12 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague at home against Partizan Belgrade. And Israel Gonzalez's team will play in the easyCredit BBL at FIT/One Würzburg Baskets on Sunday December 15.
