MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg earned a crucial victory in their fight for the direct playoffs spots as they defeated the freshly-crowned FIBA Europe Cup champions NINERS Chemnitz 96-93 at home. Ludwigsburg nearly gave up an 18-point fourth quarter lead but Desure Buie scored 18 points to lead the team to the win. Ludwigsburg improved to 18-12 after having lost three of the last four games. Chemnitz have dropped two in a row in the league to fall to 23-7 despite Aher Uguak scoring 21 points.
Game Summary: Neither team could pull away in the early going until back-to-back triples from Tyler Ongwae for a 16-10 lead for Chemnitz. Ludwigsburg turnovers and Chemnitz offensive rebounds helped Chemnitz build a 20-12 advantage. The hosts pulled back and trailed 24-21 after 10 minutes. Chemnitz miscues allowed Ludwigsburg to reclaim the lead 28-26. The game remained close at 39-39 as both teams committed numerous turnovers. Ludwigsburg closed the first half with a 12-5 spurt and went into the break ahead 51-44.
Ludwigsburg scored the first three points of the second half to open the first double-digit lead. Ludwigsburg got eight straight points from Eddy Edigin in a 12-3 run as the lead swelled to 68-51. Chemnitz were able to trim the deficit to 11 points but could not come up with the defensive stops and were down 80-64 after 30 minutes. Ludwigsburg increased the lead to a game-high 18 points at 82-64 to start the fourth quarter. The hosts were still up 85-68 when their offense dried up as Chemnitz drained three three-pointers in 13-2 run as the advantage shrank to 87-81. Chemnitz continued the fight and it was 90-85 with under 3 minutes to go. Jeff Garrett’s basket trimmed the gap to 93-90 with 52 seconds left. But Silas Melson iced the game for Ludwigsburg with two free throws with 10 seconds to play.
Numbers Please: Ludwigsburg shot 65.0 percent on two-pointers and made 26-of-35 free throws compared to just 15-of-23 foul shots for Chemnitz.
Player of the Game: Six Ludwigsburg players scored in double figures led by Desure Buie, who also scored 18 points to go with 1 rebound, 4 assists and 2 steals in nearly 33 minutes on the court.

The Germans: Eddy Edigin collected 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks for the winners and fellow German big man Jonathan Bähre added 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block off the bench. Kevin Yebo tallied 14 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist for Chemnitz.
Also Newsworthy: Chemnitz made history in Istanbul on Wednesday as they won the FIBA Europe Cup - the sixth European trophy for a German club in history. Chemnitz have celebrations planned in the city on Sunday, April 28.
Also Newsworthy Part II: Jeff Garrett came into the game as Chemnitz's third-leading scorer at 13.5 points. But he did not score his first points against Ludwigsburg until 4:45 minutes left in the game. Garrett ended up with 6 points in more than 27 minutes.
