Game Summary: Neither team was really able to pull away in the opening minutes with William Christmas leading the hosts, who went up 18-16 after the third lead change. Frankfurt managed to go ahead 26-20 and were leading 26-21 after 10 minutes. The momentum continued in the second quarter and Frankfurt increased the gap to nine points at 31-22. Braunschweig fought to stay close at 35-31 but eight straight points for Frankfurt extended the cushion to 47-34. The home side led 49-39 at the break.
Frankfurt were ahead by 12 when Braunschweig put together a spurt to make it a five-point game 57-52. The hosts punched back and were up 69-59 and went into the final frame leading 69-61. Frankfurt appeared to have control and led 76-63 with under 8 minutes to play. Braunschweig showed a great fighting effort with a 16-3 surge to knot the game 79-79 with 9.1 seconds left on Grant Sherfield’s jumper. Christmas’ layup at the rim at the buzzer did not fall and the game went to overtime. Braunschweig started the extra session better and led 88-81 with 2 minutes to go. The hosts charged back to make it 88-87 with 23 seconds left. Sherfield and Simi Shittu both split free throws in the closing seconds to secure the win.

Numbers Please: Braunschweig held Frankfurt to just 42 percent shooting including 21 percent from long range. The visitors also committed only 11 turnovers in 45 minutes.

Defense works for new head coach Diaz: Braunschweig's new head coach Ramon Diaz, who only arrived in the city late Thursday, called for his new team to play better defense after having allowed 90.0 points per game in their seven-game losing streak. And the defensive effort shined through late as Braunschweig allowed only 10 points in the fourth quarter and eight in overtime.

What's Up Next: Frankfurt head on the road for the next game as they take on FC Bayern Basketball on Tuesday February 17 in Munich. Braunschweig for their part host Fitness First Würzburg Baskets on Wednesday February 18.
